New Installation of Evopos

You can download the Full Evopos Installation file from our Evopos Web site / Portal at: http://evopos.com

You could also run from a CD or USB drive with the required files on (Available upon request).

Installing the setup files on the main computer

Run the installation on the main computer (the one that will run the database for Evopos). If you do not have a CD or USB drive you can download from our Web site / Portal. Go to https://evopos.com and Login (select Register if you do not yet have Login details). There should be a Download link for Full Evopos Installation. You may be asked if you want to Save or Run. If you save it then you will need to run it once it has been downloaded to your computer. Normally it saves by default into your Downloads user based folder/library

If your security software comes up with a warning select ‘Allow’ or ‘Ok’. If asked to Over-write existing files select: 'Yes to all' When complete select ‘Finish’ or ‘Close’.

When the 'Evopos Main - Full Installation' file is run it should extract all the required files into a folder and then run: \EvoposShared\Install\EvoposMain\Setup.exe, or you can extract and run manually (Note: Earlier installations used the older structure of: \bbscd\Evolve\Setup.exe).

If you have multiple computers you should share this folder so it is available on all the other computers (This avoids having to download it on every computer).

Installing Evopos

The Evopos Setup file (\EvoposShared\Install\EvoposDesktop\Setup.exe) should run automatically on the first computer after installing the setup files. You can also install Evopos manually by running the above file.

If any Evopos dependencies (Crystal Reports etc) are not installed, it should attempt to install these. When the Evopos Update screen(s) shows, confirm any License agreement(s) and Evopos should install.

Note: On Windows 10 you may need to manually add support for Dot Net Framework 3.5 (see Problems starting Evopos)

When Evopos is installed it should also put an orange ball Evopos icon (shortcut) on your desktop to start Evopos. Evopos should then start automatically. If it does not see Problems starting Evopos

If Evopos cannot find the database (eg: the first time Evopos is run), it will show a Database Connection screen.

If installing on the main computer

When the Database Connection screen comes up, select New Database and follow the prompts to create the database and restore a blank database backup.

Make a note of the Computer Name (or local IP Address) of the main computer so we can enter it as the SQL Server on any other computers that will connect to it.

If running Windows 8 or later it may say the version of SQL is incompatible, if so just select to run it anyway.

If running a later version of Windows (Especially Windows 10) you will need to re-start Windows after installing SQL Server before you can create/restore the database.

If other computers on the network will connect to the database see 'Allow other computers on the Network to connect' section below

If any problems see Connecting to the database

When connected to the data for the first time, after the the database connect screen, Evopos will normally bring up the 'Licensing' screen where you can confirm the modules you require and the number of additional computers you will use (Note: You can change these settings at any time). You can update Licensing details over the Internet or select Manual if no internet, where you can enter a code that Customer Services can provide.

Evopos will also normally bring up a Wizard to help you get started with some company details. Just fill in the various fields especially the Financial Year start date. Evopos should then go to the default start screen (Normally Sales).

If the database has already been set up

When the Database Connection screen comes up enter the Computer Name (or local IP Address) of the computer where the SQL Database is running. See also: Connecting to the database

Allow other computers on the network to connect

Before other computers will be able to connect to the database we need to allow exceptions in the firewall for the SQL Server services.

Select Start / Control Panel / Windows Firewall

Select Exceptions or Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall

Select Allow another program, select Browse and set the following two programs:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\SQLBrowser.exe

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.x\MSSQL\Binn\Sqlservr.exe (Note - x is normally 1 however if other instances were setup first it may be a later number. Look in the Data folder for the EvoposMain (or BBSMain on earlier installs) database files to ensure you have the correct instance .

If installing on other computers then share the Installation folder (eg: \EvoposShared or \BBSCD) so that other computers can access it.

If connecting across the internet you will need to set up the router / modem to direct the SQL port to the appropriate computer. See: Connecting to the database
